About the Director

José, the son of Puerto Rican emigrants, grew up on the streets of New York City. In 1979, José, his wife Evie, and two children moved to Warwick, New York. Commuting each day several hours to and from NYC, José supported his family by working as a steam mechanic with Con Edison (NYC Power Utility). Soon after moving to Warwick, José began to trust in and serve the Lord. He became increasingly involved in his local church as a Trustee, Deacon, and Boy’s Brigade Chief Ranger, acting as a Christian mentor to many boys and men. During this time the Lord impressed upon José the importance of debt-free living.

In 2003, at age 55, José reached two milestones: he retired from Con Ed after 33 years of service and being debt free became a reality. He maintains debt-free living while receiving a 50% pension by being a Godly steward; this frames his down-to-earth presentations which underscore a simple faith in the power of God to change lives.

José was certified by Crown Financial Ministries as a budget coach (counselor) and a Small Group Leader. He was also a certified seminar instructor in both English and Spanish on biblically-based personal financial empowerment. He hosted home Bible studies for many years, particularly on finances with married couples. José also reaches out to Latino communities.

In 2007, José and Evie moved to Souderton, PA, to minister to their immediate family. José continued to present financial seminars and workshops as they both traveled to New York, New Jersey, and wherever God opened doors. While living in PA and serving in many capacities at their home church, including counseling Pastors with their finances, God impressed on José to attend Nazarene Bible College classes to become a District Pastor which he finally did in April 2016. His ordination takes place in May 2019.

About seven years ago, the Lord impressed on José to begin a Ministry teaching people to become debt free; hence, DEBT FREE IN CHRIST was birthed, based on biblical stewardship principles while presenting the Gospel as well.

In October 2017, the Lord moved José and Evie to San Antonio, TX, where José is interning as an Associate Pastor at New Vision Community Church. This is truly a new chapter in their walk with the Lord.

José is energetic, loves family life, and enjoys a family-based ministry. He frequently presents biblical stewardship to his three grandchildren who also reside in San Antonio – the legacy must continue.

José and Evie are advancing forward with a clear vision and purpose. God fills them with the strength and power of the Holy Spirit to spread the “Good News” of debt-free living.
